■■ Chiang Kai-shek's Profile ■■
1887-1975. Military officer and politician of the Republic of China. First president of the Republic of China. While studying in Japan, he joined the China Alliance of Sun Yat-sen, and returned to China to participate in the Xinhai Revolution. After Sun Yat-sen's death, he became commander-in-chief of the Nationalist Revolutionary Army. And, after the Northern Expedition, he became president of the Nationalist Government in Nanjing in 1928. Although he strengthened his anti-communist policies, he was captured in the Xi'an Incident, and agreed to join forces with KMT–CCP Alliance to carry out the anti-Japanese war. After the war, he was defeated in a civil war with the CCP and retreated to Taiwan in 1949.
